Don’s Floor Curling Rocks are hand crafted from the finest Eastern Maple Wood (or from Ash, when Eastern Maple is not available).
He buys lumber and saws it into blocks that are a manageable size. A band saw is used to make smaller cuts, then onto the wood-lathe to make the circles. The press drill is used to make the holes.
The handles he welds, grinds, polishes and paints. When dry they are attached to the rocks with screws.
Each rock weighs approximately two pounds (as close to the weight as wood variations will allow). It is seven inches in diameter and one and three-quarter inches thick.
When rocks are refurbished, they are brought back up to regulation weight.
It's possible that your curling rocks can be refurbished. Don will inspect them to see if it is possible, and will provide you with a quote.
Rocks to be refurbished must be shipped to us, prepaid, at Tees, Alberta.
While supplies last, we also sell refurbished rocks. Pricing for refurbished rocks is on our order page.
We manufacture sticks as well as rocks. They are of a convenient length and will stand up to many years of use.
We recommend Ultra Fast Shuffleboard Wax, manufactured by Bobwood Industries Ltd. It comes in a 500 g package and is available at Sporting Goods shops.
With proper care and storage Don's Curling Rocks will last for over twenty-five years. Curling rocks must be stored flat on a shelf or hanging up by the handles.
Rocks can only be used on a properly waxed surface, or their finish will be destroyed. They should be refinished every two to three years. Please contact Don for refinishing instructions before you start.
